Supporting Activities / Committees

College Union

The college union is constituted every year in accordance with the University rules and regulations. The Union consists of the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, General Secretary, Arts Club Secretary, Magazine Editor, University Union Councillor and General Caption who are elected by the students. The Union has the responsibility of organizing co-curricular activities in the college. It also represents the college at University meetings, youth festivals and Inter-collegiate competitions. The college union organizes most of the co-curricular activities of the college, under the guidance of the Principal and the teachers concerned. Every student of the college shall be an ordinary member of the union and have the right to vote and contest in the election of the union. The tenure of the College Union is one academic year. The objectives of the college union are:

• To train students of the college on the duties and rights of citizenship.
• To promote opportunities for the development of character, leadership and spirit of service among the students.

College Development Committee (CDC)

A College Development Committee is constituted in the College for expediting renovation, repair and developmental activities of the College. The College Council is the apex body of the institution that plans and executes developmental activities. The CDC chaired by the District Collector meet periodically to ensure that the budget allocated for Development is utilized properly. Since the institution is owned by the Government of Kerala and hence the major maintenance and repair works are carried out through the Public Works Department of the Government.

Alumni Association (OSA)

Alumni is a platform of old students to discuss various issues of the college and share their experience, which can be used for the development of the College as well as inspire the present students. An alumni is constituted in the College. Smt. Priya. P.S. HoD of English is the present convener of the alumni association.

Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)

The parents or guardian of all the students on the roll of the College are members of the association. The Principal and members of teaching staff are ipso facto members of PTA. The objectives of PTA are to foster and promote good relationship among members of teaching and non-teaching staff, students and parents and also to provide/arrange amenities to the students of the College.

College Council

The administration of the college is vested in the Principal, subject to the general direction and control of the College Council. This is a statutory body to advise and assist the Principal in all academic and administrative matters. The College Council consists of the heads of the various departments, elected representatives from among the teaching staff and the Principal who acts as the Chairperson of the Council. A Secretary is elected from among the members for a period of one year. The Council Secretary issues notices of Council meetings in consultation with the Principal. The Secretary prepares and maintains an account of the proceedings of the meetings. Two days prior notice is given for usual meetings and urgent meetings are convened at short notice.

Library Advisory Committee

Library advisory committee is constituted in the college for the effective functioning of the College library. The library advisory committee functions to promote effective and interactive access and use of the information resources for all users. The committee monitors the activities of the library and advises maintenance of books and periodicals, the working of library, automation etc. It prepares rules and guidelines with regard to hours of access, circulation policies and other regulations to offer better services to the users. The committee has the responsibility of recommending, selecting and purchasing books for the library. It also puts forward its recommendations regarding the improvement of infrastructure and the means to make it more user-friendly

Planning Board

The Planning Board is constituted to assists the College in drafting proposals and budgets in order to obtain financial assistance from various organizations such as UGC, DCE, state government bodies etc. The Board also ensures proper implementation of the sanctioned schemes, and the equitable distribution of the funds allotted. IQAC is entrusted with the duty of forming quality parameters and monitoring the academic and co-curricular activities of the College to ensure quality education. Purchase Committee

In order to maintain transparency in all transactions, the purchase committee supervises all the purchases made in the campus. Discipline Committee

The Discipline Committee is in charge of ensuring a peaceful campus congenial to study. Any act of commission or omission on the part of the students which threatens the peaceful atmosphere on the campus will be investigated and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. The Disciplinary Committee consists of senior faculty members, NSS Programme Officer, Staff Advisor to the College Union, elected members of the College Council and elected student representatives of the College Union. Anti-Ragging Cell

Two senior members of the teaching faculty and a senior member of the administrative staff make up this cell. The Committee follows a system by which the students can express their grievances regarding any aspect of the college or campus. A complaint box is set up for this purpose. The Committee takes these complaints seriously and corrective measures are taken immediately. Smt. Nima Chandran, faculty of Commerce is in charge of this cell.

Examination Committee

The Examination Committee is responsible for conducting the University exams smoothly. Sri. Abhilash S.S. HoD of Physical Education and Vice-principal of the college is appointed as the Additional Chief Superintendent of University Examinations.

Ethics Committee

Education becomes complete only when it is value-based or ethics based. The Ethics Committee is responsible for instilling in the students basic human values thus making them better human beings. It also ensures that the code of conduct in the college is followed. Smt. Priya. P.S. HoD of English is the co-ordinator of ethics committee during 2020-21.

Grievance Redressal Cell

This cell has the authority to settle any type of grievance raised by the students of the college. The students are expected to lodge their grievances with their respective tutors who will in turn intimate the matter to the committee for necessary action. Students are not encouraged to petition the Principal directly. They should approach the Grievance Redressal Cell. Only if the matter is not resolved are they to approach the Principal. Sri. Career Guidance and Placement Cell

The Career Guidance Cell aims at giving the students information and guidance on the best placements that are available. The college conducts seminars and arranges meetings with parents with a view to disseminating details about the various academic avenues open before their wards. The Cell also coordinates career counseling sessions on the latest trends in the job arena. Smt. Mary Sunitha Joy, faculty of English is the convenor of this committee during 2020-21.

Website Committee

The college website – www.mmsgcktda.ac.in provides all necessary information about the College and its activities. The committee is in charge of updating the website periodically. Dr. Akhil. C.K, faculty of Mathematics is the co-ordinator of this committee.

Feedback Committee

This committee collects feedback from the students as well as from their parents. The feedback thus collected is communicated to the people concerned which become an effective tool to improve the quality of the teaching.

Cultural Programme Committee

The Cultural Programme Committee organizes various cultural programmes in collaboration with various organizations. Smt. Smitha. J. Lal, faculty of English is in charge of cultural programme committee.

Counselling Cell

A Counselling Cell has been instituted in the college with the aim of providing counselling to students. It helps the students to deal with both personal as well as academic problems. It also helps to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the students and to plan their educational paths and careers in accordance with this. The cell organizes seminars, workshops and career guidance programmes. The cell also extends the services of professional counselors to the students.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

The aim of the NSS is personality development through community service. The NSS gives students opportunities to engage themselves in constructive action for social welfare. Educational, health-related, agricultural and self-employment programmes are included in the various activities. At present the college has two NSS unit with 200 students. Smt. Handbook Committee

This committee is responsible for updating the College handbook which provides information about the college. It covers both the curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular and non-curricular activities of the college. It also furnishes a list of the faculty members and the support staff of the college.

Campus Beautification Committee

Tutorial Programme

To properly guide and direct the students, the tutorial programme is live in the College. A group of 20 students are under one tutor who meets regularly to discuss and solve both academic and other issues.

Induction Programme

For the first year students, the College conducts an induction programme on the opening day. In this programme, the parents are also invited to attend. The programme aims at introducing the new comers in to the college with respect to the vision, mission, rules and regulations, facilities available and so on.

RTI ACT 2005

Right to Information Act 2005 mandates timely response to citizen requests for government information. It is an initiative taken by Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions to provide a– RTI Portal Gateway to the citizens for quick search of information on the details of first Appellate Authorities,PIOs etc. amongst others, besides access to RTI related information / disclosures published on the web by various Public Authorities under the government of India as well as the State Governments (Order No. 34012/12(S)/2005-Estt.(B)-28/09/2005)

Citizens can seek information regarding the activities of the college by submitting a written request with details like Name, address, contact telephone number and particulars of the information sought. The reason for seeking information need not be given. The duly signed request may be addressed to the Public Information Officer, MMS Govt. Arts & Science College, Malayinkeezhu, Trivandrum along with the required fee of Rs.10/-. Copies of documents will be charged according to the rate fixed by the State Information Commission, Kerala.

Debating Club

Effective speaking is one of the most essential arts that one needs to master and develop a vibrant personality. This club provides a platform for the students interested in public speaking and debates to sharpen their speaking skills.

This club aims to help students to develop a love for reading. The club also enhances the critical and analytical abilities of the students by regular discussions and reviews. Anti-Narcotic Club

Anti-narcotic club is a club to curb the menace of substance abuse among youngsters. Convened by the Station House Officer of the local police station, the ‘anti-narco club’ comprises the Principal, three faculty members, members of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and student representatives of our college. The club envisages every student of the college to be goal oriented and innovative in protecting oneself and others against drugs and alcohol. The activities of club include sensitization programmes through awareness classes, workshops, seminars, campaigns, poster exhibitions etc.

Entrepreneurship Development Club

Entrepreneurship Development Club functions under Innovation Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) with registration number EDC/TVM/43/17. IEDCs are small incubators located within the colleges, where students having innovative ideas can pursue entrepreneurship along with their studies, At these centres, students can do entrepreneurial related activities, which include ideathons, hackathons, business modelling sessions, meet-the-mentor sessions and so on.

Human Rights Forum

The club aims at creating an awareness among students on the importance of Human Rights. The students are made aware of basic human rights and its relevance.
