MESSAGE OF THE PRINCIPAL

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the MMS Government Arts & Science College Malayinkeezhu, Thiruvananthapuram, an institution stands for humanity creativity and compassion. As the Principal, I feel a real sense of privilege in having the opportunity to lead this institution.

We have three UG programs – arts, science and commerce and one PG programme – commerce. Apart from vibrant and meaningful classroom teaching, the College provides several support programmes, all of which make the educational experience of our students rich and indelible. As part of the semesterization of courses, the College constituted various clubs to promote the extra-curricular activities of our students. Our students have always shown academic excellence in university examinations.

We also prepare our students to confidently face the challenges of the highly competitive world and career progression, and also nurture them to become socially responsible human being. To bring up the college comparably at par with other colleges calls for wholehearted dedication on the part of all stakeholders – students, staff members, parents as well as anyone associated with the college.

I would like to place on record the selfless and effective contribution of former Principals, the members of teaching and non-teaching staff, the students and well-wishers from all walks of life. I am sure our students will always strive to uphold the dignity of our college and keep its flag ever flying high. I wish our students all success in their endeavours.

History

MMS Government Arts and Science College Malayinkeezhu was established in the name of famous poet, Madhava Panicker in 2014. The first Bhagavat Gita that Malayalam language received is through Madhava Panicker. Madhava Panicker came to Malayinkeezhu as part of some temple related activities and he was captivated by the scenic beauty of this place. Thus he gradually became a permanent resident of this area. While residing here, he became engaged in literary works.

It was considered that (Jananappanuval) Bhaasshabhagavatgita was written on the blessing of Thiruvallabha and is counted as the noblest among the translation of Gita. The poet had pictured Malayinkeezhu equal to Amaravathy. Without losing its originality and meaning it had been summarized and translated to 328 stanzas. This is today considered as the first translation of Gita. Among the Kannasa trio, Malayinkeezhu Madhava Panicker stands unique as a polestar in Malayalam literature.

Taking into consideration the significance of this place, the then Government of Kerala decided to start a college here and was named after this rate poetic genius. Accordingly the college was established as per G.O (MS) No. 641/13/H.Edn. Thiruvananthapuram dated 15/10/2013. As per GO (MS) No. 128/2014/RD Thiruvananthapuram dated 01/03/2014 five acres of land (3.90 acres belonging to Govt. VHSS and 1.10 acres belonging to Govt. GHSS) comprised in Block No. 6, Sy. The college started its functions in 2014 with three degree courses – BA English, B.Com and B.Sc Mathematics. In 2020, a PG course – M.Com was also started.
